Take the drawback up front. This route is relaxed, not epic. It won't fill a full weekend, and River Road at peak leaf color on a Saturday afternoon crawls. If you want a hustle, this isn't it. But for a Bucks County family who wants history, a little altitude, a heritage train ride, and a riverside walk, it's a genuinely good day out.
What's the Route?
The core loop runs about 35 miles round-trip, quick enough for a half-day but scenic enough that you won't want to rush it. PA-263 north out of Warminster gets you to New Hope in roughly 25 minutes on a clear weekday. River Road (PA-32) brings you south along the Delaware on the way home, winding through Washington Crossing before you reconnect to PA-532 back toward Warminster.

The Four Stops in Detail
Stop 1: Craven Hall, Warminster
Begin close to home. Craven Hall sits at the corner of Street Road and Newtown Road in Warminster, a Federal and Greek Revival stone house built in stages beginning in 1780, listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2007. The adjacent John Fitch Steamboat Museum holds a working model of the commercial steamboat Fitch operated on the Delaware River in 1790, a genuinely surprising detail for a building you'd otherwise drive past on the way to the Turnpike.
Open houses run on the second Sunday of each month. If your day falls on the right Sunday, plan 45 to 60 minutes here before heading out. You get a clean start to a history-forward day trip without driving anywhere yet.

Stops 2 and 3: Bowman's Hill Tower and New Hope Railroad

PA-263 north from Warminster runs through Buckingham before it drops toward the river. Stay on PA-32 south briefly to reach Washington Crossing, then pick up the road north toward New Hope. Bowman's Hill Tower stands 125 feet tall at Washington Crossing Historic Park and gives a 14-mile view across the Delaware Valley on a clear day. That elevation is rare in Bucks County, and October is the obvious month to use it.
From there, New Hope is about ten minutes north on PA-32. The New Hope Railroad runs a 90-minute Fall Foliage Excursion, a round trip south to Buckingham through rolling Bucks County farmland and woodland. The railroad operates out of the 1891 station in the center of town. Book in advance. Peak October weekends fill up.
Get Your Rogue Road-Ready Before You Go
Stop 4: Delaware Canal State Park Towpath
The 60-mile towpath along Delaware Canal State Park gives you the foliage at eye level, not from a tower. A short out-and-back from the New Hope trailhead is enough to feel the canopy overhead and hear the canal alongside you. Flat, wide, and stroller-friendly. A good leg-stretcher after the train ride, before the drive home.
PA-32 south from New Hope through Washington Crossing is the scenic return leg. Two lanes, tree-lined, river glimpses between properties. The Rogue's Intelligent AWD with available Snow mode earns its keep here. PA-32 in late October collects wet leaves on the pavement, and the system monitors front and rear wheel conditions to redistribute torque when grip gets inconsistent. It's a driver aid, not a guarantee of traction. Slow down for the curves regardless.
